A New Year, New Services or Re-evaluations?

Dear Parent

I wish you a happy, healthy, successful and safe 2021.

The beginning of the year gives us an opportunity to reflect on our children’s progress at school or in speech therapy and other services. There is something about having received our children’s report cards and grades as well as having had time off over the holidays to decide if we are satisfied with our children’s achievements. Seeing as the new year is the time for resolutions this is the time for us to ACT if we are not satisfied.

This second half of the year is the time where we must begin to arrange for assessments and evaluations for our children. Go on your school’s websites and familiarize yourself with the services that your school offers and the coordinators of these services.  If your school does not offer services, contact your health insurance provider, and see if they offer speech therapy services. Many health insurances do offer several sessions subject to a co-pay. It is important that you act now, so that your child can have the benefit of services for the remainder of the year. Also, in certain education departments assessment spaces for services such as Augmentative and Alternative Communication dry up towards the end of the school year.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding whether your child may benefit from speech therapy.

I look forward to speaking with you.
