Early Intervention Home Program

Hello Parents,

Learning and Enjoying during the Summer

The school year has come to an end and it’s time to enjoy the summer.  I am sharing some ideas  of how your child can spend their days and some family activities you can all enjoy.

 General Principles

Model speech and language.  This means that you should be constantly speaking to your child. Speak slowly and clearly and use short sentences with a lot of repetition.

Speak about what your child is doing, for example, “you are jumping”, jump, jump more. Jump with your child.

Use labelling or commenting for example naming your child’s body parts, clothing, colors and the activities they do.

Use forced alternatives for examples at mealtimes. Do you want yoghurt or apple? “yoghurt or apple?”

 Community Resources

In addition, there are many free resources like libraries, zoos that are available in your local community, please look out for free activities as these are popular during the summer.
